Memphis Moms Blog and Downtown Yoga are excited to announce a new event series “Just Breathe.”
Beginning next week, and over the next five months, MMB and Downtown Yoga will offer different types of yoga classes, introducing different techniques and skills. Each class will be approximately 45 minutes in length. Cost is $15/class or you may purchase the entire series for only $70. Space is limited. Click here to purchase the entire series.
Monday, January 15 (MLK day) Family Yoga 10:30am
Fun for everyone (including dads!), this class is a beginner yoga class. It will focus on the foundation and alignment of yoga postures, as well as the transitions between them. There will also be breathing and meditation practices to help support you. Make it a family day and explore all that S. Main has to offer, including the Civil Rights Museum (only a block away) or places to eat lunch, such as The Arcade. Click here to buy tickets for family yoga.
Friday, February 16 Wine Down; Moms Night Out 7:15pm
Are you a tired mama? Then this class is for you! Join us for a restorative yoga sequence, typically involving only 5-6 poses. Supportive props enable you to completely rest and relax. Held for approximately 5 minutes each, restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends. Stay after class and enjoy complementary hors d’voures and wine. Tickets available February 1st!
Monday, March 12 (Spring Break) Mommy & Me Yoga 10:30am
Recommended for toddlers and preschoolers, Amy will focus this class on the vinyasa.
The vinyasa is defined as placing things (like yoga poses) in a special order.
It links our body and breath together in fluid ways to support a clearer mind and body.
It will be a special time for moms to focus and bond with their child. Tickets available March 1st!
Friday, April 20 Wine Down; Moms Night Out 7:15pm
Stay Calm and Do Yoga! Join us for a Restorative Yoga sequence, typically involving only 5-6 poses. Supportive props enable you to completely rest and relax. Held for approximately 5 minutes each, restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends.

Monday, May 7 Stretch It; Runner Mom Yoga 10:30am
Yin yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body–tendons, fascia and ligaments–with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Although the class is for any mom who’d like to benefit from yin yoga, the focus will be stretching for runners who may be participating in the Memphis Mile Run (Thursday, May 9). Tickets available May 1st!
I can tell you the benefits are still being revealed every time I breathe and take step into life or onto my mat.
Downtown Yoga owner, Amy Hutcheson, has been practicing yoga for 26 years and teaching for the past four. Her yoga practice has supported a spinal fusion at age 11 and continued to support her life as a runner and cyclist. Amy is passionate about yoga and teaches from the perspective of building strength as well as flexibility. She brings mindful awareness to breathing so that your practice stays with you even after you leave class. Yoga is accessible to everyone, and support is offered equally to new students as well as the more experienced.
You can’t do this [yoga] wrong . . . show up and breathe and the rest will come.
