A little list about things I hear, and things I think about having 5 kids!
Yes, they’re all mine.
You would not believe the number of times that my husband and/or I get this question when we are alone with all 5 kids in public. Heck, we get this question just being with the 3 younger kids, ages 6, 5 and 2!
2. My, you have your hands full!
Look, some days, everything is full and brimming over: emotions, homework, the spaghetti pot, the crying, the mess, the whining, you name it! Other days, it is amazing. My children have built in study buddies and tutors, playmates, snuggle friends, and someone to help get the soap off their back in the bath!
Oh, your bigs must be so helpful with your littles!
Have you met a teenager before? I have a 16-year-old and 14-year-old. And yes, in theory, I have people who should be able to help. But, they’re teenagers. So sometimes, it’s like having 5 toddlers. And sometimes, it’s not.
Did you mean to have this many kids?
No. The honest answer here is no. We always planned for pairs, so, in theory, I should have another. ( I am NOT.) But, we knew after our second that we wanted another child. And it took a long time. And then it looked like it wasn’t going to happen. And then it did. And again.
But, with baby #5, well, she came as a total surprise. But, she’s adorable and the hospital doesn’t really have a return policy, so I guess we have the better part of 16 years left to go with her! (it’s a joke…)
I have no idea how you do it!
Me. Either. I jokingly call us the poster family for Nike, because we “Just do it.” But really, it starts with the same thing any other family starts with…. We wake up, we breathe, and we get after it. Some days are awesome and some days, well, they just aren’t.
And that’s ok. Because there’s 5 days in the week and 2 days on the weekend to keep trying!
