It is officially summer in Memphis, and that means it is HOT! Luckily, there are plenty of splash pads, fountains, and pools in and around Memphis to help keep you and your kids cool all summer long! Check out our handy guide so that you know where to go all summer long!
Beale Street Landing “Island Play
251 Riverside Drive | Open daily from 8:00am – 8:00pm
The misting park is a big hit for families looking to cool off in the warmer weather. With a great view of the beautiful M bridge, this park is small but mighty! Rolling hills, dancing water fountains, a stone slide, and a giant catfish sculpture will have your kids saying, “Take Me to the River!” Adult seating limited, so you may want to bring your own camp chair or blanket. Don’t forget the snacks — it’s a bit of a hike from the free parking at Tom Lee Park. $5 parking at Beale Street Landing gets you within a block of the splash pad.
Mud Island River Park
125 North Front Street | Seasonal; April – October, Wed – Sunday from 10:00am – 8:00pm (Last admission 4:00pm)
Mud Island River Park: FREE
Mississippi River Museum Admission + Monorail ride:
Adults $10.00 | Youth (5 – 11) $8.00 | Children (4 and under) free
Take a trip on the monorail to the Mud Island River Park (or walk over for free!). The kids can wade in an exact scale model of the Lower Mississippi River (flowing from its confluence with the Ohio River at Cairo, Illinois, all the way to the Gulf of Mexico). Be sure to wear your sandals so that you can cool your feet off in this perennial Memphis favorite. The grand finale is a 40,000 sq. ft. “Gulf of Mexico” where, for $5/person, you can rent a swan-shaped paddle boat! Beat the heat by visiting the 4,000 gallon aquarium located inside the MS River Museum.
Civic Center Plaza
125 North Main Street
In ground jets spray water intermittently!
712 Tanglewood Street | Open daily; Memorial Day – Labor Day
The park features misters and sprayers of various sizes! A large parking lot next to the splash pad makes for easy navigation, with sidewalks to guide your way. Covered picnic tables available for use, so be sure to bring your lunch and stay awhile! Let the kids run back and forth between the splash pad and the large city playground located in the park! Lots of swing and climbing structures. Be warned, no public restrooms available, but the playground side does have a port-a-potty. If you have littles, we recommend leaving after lunch. The park is a popular tween/teen hangout in the afternoon.

Daily Admission: Adults $15 | Children (2-11) $10 | Seniors ( 60+) $14
Wade along the replica of the Nile and wade in the fountain area. Ride the zoo tram up to Teton Trek! Experience the “Old Faithful” geyser in action then pretend to be a wolf and sunbath on the rocks until dry. Teton Trek is also popular since the lodge area offers an indoor, air conditioned eating space. Public restrooms available.
2525 Central Avenue | Open daily; Memorial Day – Labor Day from 10:00am – 5:00pm
Daily Admission: ages 1-100 $20 (includes admission to the museum + splash park)
This garden-themed exhibit provides over 7,700 square feet of cool fun! Boasting over 40 sprayers – including flowers, leaves, water canon, split and jet streams, magic mist, geysers, and so much more! Also included in the splash park area is the Dinosaur Dig sand pit and the outdoor playground — covered in astroturf, misters, and plenty of shade, it’s a nice break from the water area. CMOM permits coolers and picnic tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Don’t forget some cash though — giant sno cones are only $1! A friendly reminder that swim diapers are required for non-potty trained kids 3 and under. Public restrooms available outside in playground area.
University of Memphis
Center of campus | Turned on seasonally
While kids are not permitted to run through the large fountain, they are encouraged to run around it and enjoy the mist! Those not wanting to get soaked, sit back on the area seating and watch the “fountain show.” It might not be the Bellagio, but it’s pretty entertaining, especially lit up at night with blue lights! Stop by the University Center food court (building next to the fountain) for Chik Fil A or Dunkin Donuts and restrooms.

While the Big Backyard has many fun things to do, a favorite is to “listen for the thunder!” Every half hour, experience a rain storm and get soaking wet! The “river” is also a fun wading area to cool off.

The YMCA keeps safety as their number one priority, implementing a strict wristband policy to notate what swimming ability your child has. Top notch lifeguards rotate throughout stations of the pools, keeping little ones safe. Deep water tests for kids are available upon request! Noodles, kickboards and other fun things are offered in the lifeguard station. Need a break from swimming? Hop over to the fenced in splash pad and enjoy sprinklers and misters!
